Demand Progress is proud to stand in solidarity with the “Corinthian 100,” the over 100 former students of the predatory, for-profit Corinthian Colleges, Inc., who have announced that they will be striking their federal student loan debt.
Corinthian collapsed last year in the face of ongoing investigations, lawsuits by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, multiple state attorneys general, and the SEC. The school has been charged with predatory lending, false job placement numbers, and unlawful debt collection. Had the Department of Education regulated Corinthian properly, these debts would never have been incurred in the first place.
Policymakers and law enforcement alike–from Representative Maxine Waters and a group of 13 U.S. Senators, to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey — have asked the Department of Education use its statutory authority to do forgive all Corinthian student debt. We echo their call, and demand that the Department of Education discharge the debt of all Corinthian students.
